It's time for some productivity

Just last night I was wondering how I was going to finish up AppFuse 1.8 and Spring Live's April update in the next 1 1/2 weeks. This morning, I got up early (5:00 a.m.) to get back to work on Spring Live, and found that Julie was already up. She was fed up with the fact that Jack was coughing up a storm and both kids are still sick. They've been sick off-and-on since January (but mostly on), and she's had enough.

Julie tooks Jack to the doctor a month ago and his recommendation was a warm and humid climate. She asked him, "like Florida?" - to which responded, "Yes! That's a great idea!" Since then, she's bought a humidifier, taken showers with Jack every morning and even hit him with the nebulizer a few times. No dice, he's still coughing and wheezing. At 5:00 a.m. this morning, she was fed up and said "I'm going to Florida." 20 minutes later, she'd bought her tickets and we left for the airport around 6:30.

While I'll certainly miss everyone, it's a golden opportunity for me to work on AppFuse and Spring Live and get caught up this weekend. Of course, I have to work an extra day in the mix to pay for the (spendy) flights, but it's nice being a contractor and having that as an option. Now the problem is I find an empty house often leaves me with little motivation. I tend to enjoy renting movies and going to bed early when the family is gone. Of course, with DU being in the Frozen Four tomorrow (and hopefully Saturday) - there's even more motivation for more fun and less work.

Regardless of the motivation I have to take part in my extra-curricular obligations (AppFuse and Spring Live), it's nice to know I have a great opportunity to work on them this weekend. Staying up late to work on this stuff just isn't any fun.

Get it over with quickly and when your family is back, buy another set of tickets including one for yourself. Then, take a long break to build up motivation. Wait until JSF is mainstream if necessary :) The world will keep spinning without your truly great work (Appfuse/SpringLive). Good luck & Cheers, t.

Man, what a coincidence. My family just went to FL yesterday, and I'm heading out there tonight for a little R&R with them. Good luck with the coughing/wheezing. My younger son has problems as well. Usually hitting him with the nebulizer every 2-3 hours for a couple days does the trick. We've had him on inhalers, Singulair, and Adanair (sp?), which have helped some too.

I don't know if Florida's the answer to your family's problems, I live there and Spring (the season, not the framework :0) has kicked up my and my family's allergies a couple of notches...

I just got a new roof on my house in Florida, but living here is great overall other than hurricane season. This time of year is the best (before the rainly season starts.)

We had the same problem with our older daughter (coughing, wheezing, esp. at night for about a year). Turns out she was allergic to milk and milk products (and it took a homeopath to find out, the mainstream md's just don't have such diagnostic capabilities in their mindsets). We took her off milk products and her symptoms disappeared within 3 days. If Florida does not help soon, you might try getting Jack tested for a milk allergy, it's pretty easy to do. Oh, yeah, our younger daughter was also allergic to milk. It usually is something they grow out of.

It's funny you guys mention allergies and asthma. Jack hasn't gotten any better since they got there on Wednesday. In fact, he's gotten worse (ear infection). Julie took him to a doctor today and he said it's possible Jack has allergies and some darkness under Abbie's eyes might indicate allergies too. Our first guess is cats, so we're going to do a deep cleaning of our house and send Zoe (our cat) over to Holly's for a week or so.
