10+ YEARS

Over 10 years ago, I wrote my first blog post. Since then, I've authored books, had kids, traveled the world, found Trish and blogged about it all.

Hug your kids

I saw this story in the headlines last week. It's a tragic story that I never expected to hit close to home. Today it did. The little girl, Macie, was one of the four girls in Abbie's ballet class. Julie and Jack used to hang out with Macie's Mom and little brother while Abbie was in class. I can't imagine what the father is going through right now.

Hug your kids. There's no such thing as showing them too much love.

Dear goodness, as a father of two myself I read this news in the early morning here in The Netherlands. I totally agree with you Matt. It is sad that one cannot foresee such accidents, let alone stop them when they happen. Horrible.

Matt, it sure is a small world. We had heard about it last Fri night and probably like most people didn't think too much of it at the time. The next night about 15 min before the 10pm news, we got a phone call from a friend telling us who it was. It turns out the father is a friend of ours. We met his family for the first time back in July where we spent an afternoon at Chatfield Reservoir with them. They were obviously a very happy family. The biggest thing I'll remember about that particular day is little Garrison (the 2yr old) just wanted to play in the sand naked so he kept pulling his diaper off.

We are planning on attending the visitation and memorial service the next couple of days. Like you said and countless other fathers have told me, you just can't imagine what Frank is going through.

Thank God that truck's license plate fell off and the police were able to nab the murderers that did this.
