San Francisco Giants This evening, Matt Filios and I headed down the street to Giants Stadium to watch the Giants play the Braves. The park was very cool, the Guinness was good - and the Giants won in the bottom of the ninth. It's been awhile since a stadium has been officially known by the team name that plays in it. It's now called Pacfiic Bell Park Stadium. Unfortunately it was built after I moved east but I've been a S.F. Giants fan for over 40 years and attended my first game at Candlestick Park when Willy Mays hit the home run that, at the time, broke that all time home run record for right handed batters. At the last conference I attended the hotel was a block away from Camden Yards. I could see part of the infield from my room. A group of about 20 of us went to a game. Another person that didn't attend said that all our future [uPortal] conferences should be in cities with MLB teams and only when the team has a home stand.

Wow - that's a great story John. It must have been pretty cool to see Willy Mays play. I definitely agree with the fact that conferences should be in baseball cities during home stands. ;-)

After you mention the "Pac Bell" name, it's all coming back to me. The stadium is now called <em>SBC</em> Stadium - I heard a father and son talking about how they liked the Pac Bell name better than "SBC".

I too got to see Willie Mays (and Willie McCovey) play at Candlestick when I was a kid. We were literally (and I literally mean "literally") in the last row. Not quite as good as your seats, but we were pretty much behind home plate (it was just a little white dot). I don't remember a thing about the game, except that we were really far away from the field. Unfortunately, being 9 at the time, I didn't get to drink any beer, let alone Guinness.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the only real major league baseball game I've ever been to (though, now living in Florida, I've been to quite a few spring training games).

Be thankful you aren't in Denver. 105 degrees yesterday. 101 today. over 100 Friday and Saturday. It's like I went to sleep Tuesday night and woke up in Phoenix.
