iPod: Glad I waited

New iPod Thanks to Kurt, I decided to wait on my purchase of an iPod. And boy am I glad I did - I was going to get a 5 giger for $299 and now I can get a 15 giger for $299! Sweeeet! Now I just have to figure out how I can use the shared drive on my XP machine as a music repository for iTunes. Importing songs across my network takes waaayyy too long.

An iPod in my future?

iPod I'm thinking about getting an iPod. I've been using a walkman tuned to the FM stations in Denver for my ride to/from work, but it's not cutting it anymore. So the question is "Which one?" There's a Windows version and a Mac version, and supposedly the iPod is configured to only work with one machine? My Windows machine has all my music on it, and my music-downloading software, so the Windows version is probably the best candidate. Another reason for the Windows version is that my Win box never moves - it's always at home.

5 gigs or 10? I only have around 500 songs - so 5 gigs is probably a good size. With 27 gigs free on my OS X hard drive, I don't really need more space. What I'm really asking here is: Send me links of good software for the iPod. I've heard rumors that there's stuff out there that'll allow you to use it on more than one machine. Feel free to remain anonymous, or use my contact page to send me an e-mail if you don't want to comment.

Recovered iPhoto Pictures

I managed to recover my iPhoto pictures by holding down Shift+Option while opening iPhoto, and then rebuilding the library. Unfortunately, my Album information was not repaired so I don't know what's up there. I'm thinking about blowing away my ~/Library/iApps/iPhoto folder and seeing if that helps. I also lost all my subscriptions in NetNewsWire. Damn. I'm glad I don't use a Mac to do my critical dev work on - I don't know if I could handle losing stuff so much.

Problems with iPhoto

Hopefully someone has seen this before and can help me out. We have a ton (700+) of digital pictures that we've taken since Abbie was born. They're all on my Mac, and I've used iPhoto to import/organize/publish them all. Today, I noticed that the number of photos dropped from 700+ to around 250. At first I freaked out, thinking that I'd lost all our photos (I have a backup, but it's two months old). Then I looked on my hard drive, and the photos are still there, they just don't show up in iPhoto. Any ideas - how did iPhoto lose count, location, etc. of all my photos?

Apple to use Intel Processors?

Erik reports that Apple may switch from Motorola to Intel processors.

macDvorak: Apple will go Intel in 12-18 months.

Puleeze let this be true! I'd love to buy my next Apple and have it run on an Intel (3 GHz?) processor. Even better, I hope Microsoft makes VirtualPC as fast as a PC. Or will I be able to install Windows/Linux on a Intel-enabled Mac? That would be sweet!

Camino 0.7 Released

Camino™ (formerly Chimera) 0.7 is available for download. Along with the new name, Camino has a new history sidebar, a new download manager and a new text encoding menu. To learn more about what's new in Camino 0.7, check out the release notes

Damn, with all of these great standards-compliant browsers for OS X, I need a Bookmark Manager so I can share bookmarks between them all. Anyone know of one?

Tivo and OS X

I think we're going to have to upgrade our Tivo. This OS X - Tivo integration looks like a good enough reason for me. Not to mention controller the shows you want to record from a web browser.

Control OS X with your T68i

The Sony Ericsson Clicker - Clicker lets you remotely control your Macintosh from a compatible Sony Ericsson phone. Further, Sony Ericsson Clicker has a built in "proximity sensor", allowing you to trigger actions when you leave or come back to your Mac. Downloading now...

After trying it: That is a cool fricken app! On the T68i, the controls are at Connect -> Accessories -> Macintosh.

Safari v. 62 has tabbed browsing?

Safari Icon According to these comments from Dave Hyatt's weblog, the current dev version of Safari has tabbed browsing, as well as auto-fill. Is it a conspiracy or true? I hope it's true.

Microsoft acquires Virtual PC software from Connectix

Windows on Mac hardware?! I think this is the best thing that could have happened to Connextix. IMO, Virtual PC was an unusable slow ass dinosaur. Hopefull M$ can improve it - I'd love to have a fast Windows XP window on my Mac. Why not have the best of everything? Throw a little Red Hat on there, and give me 2GHz and I'll be Apple's biggest fan.
