#1 reason to switch back? Speed, and lots of it. ;0)

How much did it put you back. I was at best buy looking at the sub $1500 notebooks. Cannot afford something above that, but for me it meets my needs. I am looking at the compaqs.

It put me back quite a bit ($3,873.64 including shipping) - but that is $1000 less than I paid for my Powerbook G4 a year and a half ago. I firmly believe in paying for the top-o-the-line when buying computers, since it'll be outdated in 6 months anyway. The nice thing about having my own company is that I can write it off and it's like paying $4000 less in taxes.

Curious Matt, did you consider the G5? If it is about speed, wouldn't a dual processor G5 meet your need for speed? :-) A similarly equipped G5, excluding taxes, would have cost about $400.00 more. Yet, you would have 1.5 GB of memory (assuming you purchase a 1gb memory kit @ crucial.com) and a 160gb hard drive.

The G5 wasn't an option because I wanted a new laptop, not a desktop. I am hoping to get a G5 when I get a new desktop. I don't know that I will need one though - only if I get a contract that lets me work from home.

Sorry, I missed that until I read your previous posts. Wow, that is some powerful laptop. With horsepower like that who needs a desktop. :-)

Will you be posting pictures once you get the machine?

I've been looking to buy almost the same machine but have yet to read a review of it, or see any 'in action' photos which show the size of the machine next to everyday objects.

Moazam - I'd be happy to. I'll also post some performance numbers against my existing machines and the Powerbook 17" (1 GHz).

I was surfing for information about the ZX7 when I stumbled onto your site. Actually, the Hypersonic ZX7 is just a painted Sager 4760. Both are exactly the same machine (they're both made by Clevo). However, the 4760 costs about $500-1000 less. Just thought you might want the info :).

Boy - I got screwed huh? Thanks for raining on my parade Ingra. ;-)

I calculated the same machine Sager and got a final cost of $3,175. I think I paid a couple hundred for shipping, so it's about a $700 difference. I'll send an e-mail to Hypersonic and see what their reaction is.

I think the major difference between the 'Sager' branded machine and the Hypersonic branded machine is support. And coloring :) If Hypersonic is willing to give you some money back, great, if not, I wouldn't be too heartbroke about it. They're a value added reseller, and they probably add a good deal more value (support, etc.) then Sager/Powernotebooks.com does.

lol..sorry about that. Actually, you can check out www.sagerforums.com. It's a community of sager owners and all of them are very helpful if you have any technical issues etc etc. I'm actually pretty new to the whole thing myself. I was planning to order an Alienware Area51-M (which I found out was also a Sager/Clevo). But, just to note, the new Alienware Area51-M (which isn't out yet), is NOT a Sager. I guess they switched OEMs. Anyways, it looks pretty impressive, so it might be a good idea to wait if you can. Hope this helps :D.

The NEW alienware area51m looks nothing like the old one, (the Clevo 5600) but i was wondereing if anyone had bought one, and what they thought about it
